Rules for Participation
- Application forms must be completed before December 18, 2020 on our website: www.leidenjazzaward.nl.
- Only fully completed registration forms are eligible for selection. Applications after December 18 will not be processed any further.
- Send a maximum of 2 demos in .mp3-format:
- of which one of your own hand (original)
- one a jazz ‘classic’ or (international) jazz standard. - If available, please add a link to a demo on internet (YouTube, Facebook, Bandcamp and the likes).
- Large files must be send by WeTransfer with your name added to the file-name.
- Add some photos in jpg-format.
- A statement that your music can be placed on the website www.leidenjazzaward.nl and/or on www.facebook.com/LeidenJazzAward.
- When registering, take the dates of the preliminaries into account: Thursday February 25 and Thurday March 11, 2021.
- Only when registering the candidate-participant can indicate the preferred date of a preliminary round.
- Participation is restricted to soloists who live in the Netherlands or those who are enrolled as a student at a jazz department of a Dutch conservatory or young professionals or semi-professionals from the Leiden Region.
- Participants and their accompanists are not older than 30 years of age.
- Accompanists are not older than 30 years of age also and, if (former) students at a jazz department of a Dutch conservatory, have finished their studies no more than 2 years before.
- There is a maximum of eight (8) soloists (and their accompanists).
- All participants that are rejected in the first assessment, will be placed on a backup list.
- All applications, demo’s and CVs will be sent to the members of the jury.
- Each jury member evaluates the entries and sends them to the admissions committee, no later than the first week of January 2021.
- The committee then schedules the participants spread over two evenings, taking into account their preference as much as possible.
- Once set / classified, changing date or time is no longer possible.
- Every evening we aim for four performances.
- In the preliminary rounds, the duration of the performances is 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes (max) of stage changes. There are four (4) performances per round.
- A schedule for soundchecks will be made. Participants need to be present in time for their soundcheck.
- The secretary reports the classification per preliminary round mid January 2021 to the participants. Requests for alternative dates or times cannot be taken into consideration.
ONCE AGAIN: before or on 18 December 2020, all the requested material must have been submitted to the secretariat. The total number of requested music and photo files may not exceed 20 mb in size.
